The Memphis Police Department is mourning the loss of Officer Daniel Adams, who died following a tragic off-duty vehicle crash in Lakeland on Thursday night. His passing has left colleagues, friends, and the wider law enforcement community in deep sorrow.
According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at approximately 9:55 p.m. to reports of a single-vehicle crash with injuries in the 10600 block of Mem-Arlington Road. Investigators say the vehicle left the roadway for reasons still under review, struck a culvert, and overturned.
When first responders arrived at the scene, they located an unresponsive male inside the vehicle. Deputies immediately began life-saving measures before Shelby County Fire crews transported the victim to Regional One Hospital in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, he was later pronounced dead.
The Memphis Police Department later confirmed the victim as Officer Daniel Adams, who was off duty at the time of the crash. Authorities also confirmed that he was the only person involved in the incident.
Officer Adams joined the Memphis Police Department in 2016 and served with dedication out of the Tillman Station precinct. During his years of service, he was recognized by colleagues as a committed officer who took pride in protecting and serving the community.
Memphis Police Chief C.J. Davis expressed condolences following the announcement, stating, “We are heartbroken by the loss of Officer Adams. He dedicated his career to serving others, and his passing is a tremendous loss to our department.
