ASHWAUBENON, Wis. — One person was injured and another is in custody following a shooting early Saturday morning at the Oneida Casino and Hotel, according to WBAY News staff reports.
Authorities with Ashwaubenon Public Safety said officers were dispatched to the casino shortly before 2 a.m. after receiving reports that a male victim had been shot in the back. When emergency responders arrived, casino security personnel were already assisting the injured individual and providing initial aid.
Investigators say the quick response from security played a key role in helping identify a suspect vehicle connected to the shooting. Using that information, law enforcement officers located and stopped the vehicle on Highway 172 near County Highway GV shortly after the incident.
An Appleton man was taken into custody at the scene of the traffic stop without further incident. Officials say he is currently being held and is expected to face multiple serious charges, including attempted first-degree intentional homicide, knowingly violating a domestic abuse injunction, and possession of a firearm while intoxicated.
Authorities also confirmed that the suspect is a family member of the victim, though additional details regarding their relationship have not been publicly released. Investigators have not indicated a clear motive at this time, and the circumstances leading up to the shooting remain under active review.
The victim sustained serious injuries but is expected to survive, as officials described the wounds as non-life-threatening. The individual was transported for further medical treatment following initial assistance at the scene.
Law enforcement officials emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and additional updates may be released as more information becomes available. Police are continuing to gather evidence, interview witnesses, and review surveillance footage from the casino and surrounding area.
Authorities have also stated that the suspect’s identity is being withheld at this time in order to protect the privacy of the victim and their family as the case develops.
